DERMAROLLER
and
Stretch Marks
Stretch marks are deep tears or rips through the deep skin layers and most commonly caused by growth spurts from puberty, pregnancy, rapid weight gain, or increased muscle mass from working out. Derma rollers help reduce stretch marks by puncturing the skin which brings about various cellular actions (fibroblast cell activity) and materials up through the skin’s layers including skin growth factors. This is the same response the skin makes to an injury and induces the formation of new skin and therefore collagen.
Derma rollers work on all skin types and skin tones because they don’t cause hyperpigmentation. Moreover, dermarolling is non-invasive and therefore safer and more effective than laser treatments.
Different Types of Stretch Marks
The general term for stretch marks is Striae, a word that applies to all forms of stretch marks.
Striae Atrophica
This form of stretch mark is usually caused by rapid weight gain or loss.
Striae Distensae
Formed in puberty because of quick spurts of growth and weight changes, this type of Striae are usually found on teenagers’ thighs, abdomen, back, and buttocks.
Striae Gravidarum
These type of stretch marks are particular to pregnant women. They appear on the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and occasionally the breasts.
Vergetures
These stretch marks tend to form in long lines like lashings. Caused by puberty and pregnancy, they start as a deep red that will fade to a lighter color like other stretch marks. Men often find this type of stretch mark on their backs.
Derma rollers are effective against all of the above stretch mark types.
